Attention Linux Users and Bestbuy Customers

The purpose of this post is to rant about my horrible experience with Bestbuy. I am a Linux user. Given the fact that Windows 8 absolutely sucks, and I prefer Linux Ubuntu over any other operating system, my newly purchased laptop from Bestbuy instantly was wiped of the poison they call an operating system (Windows 8)and the much better Linux Ubuntu was installed.

When purchasing this computer, I asked the salesman specifically, can this computer handle Linux?  He informed me that the computer was perfectly capable of handing the OS.  I did not like the bios, and was planning on returning the computer for an upgrade.  Well, after being told that putting Linux on the computer would be perfectly fine, I was told by the return counter geek squad person, that I voided the warranty when I changed the operating system, and they would not accept the return.

Don't you think that I should have been told that when I purchased the computer?!?!??!

Well, anyways, after many hours of multiple calls to corporate headquarters (most of the time spent on hold) I was informed multiple times, that it does not matter what the salesman says at Bestbuy, the only thing that matters is I voided the warranty, and they did not care that they were losing my lifetime business over a $288 HP 5000 laptop.

I do not want you Linux users to get caught in this same trap.  As a matter of fact, I would like for you all to never shop at Bestbuy again, but I have realistic expectations.  If you are going to wipe the pathetic excuse for an operating system that was created by that corporation Microsoft, and put on the much better free operating system that works as it should, please do not buy the machine from Bestbuy, as they will tell you the same thing they told me, the warranty is voided and the return is not going to happen.

Please Spread the Word!

Learning Binary Lesson 1

I wanted to help out those that wanted to learn Binary. If you are interested I think the first thing you should be able to do is simple Math. You should not have to add these numbers in your head. You should MEMORIZE all these before you proceed further. Binary numbers work in a way different than digit numbers. While digit numbers have 9 (00001001) digits, binary numbers only have 2 (00000010) digits. Ones and Zeros. So if you are going to be good at reading binary numbers, you have to MEMORIZE these math problems.

2+1=3 4+2=6 8+4=12 16+8=24 32+16=48 64+32=96 128+64=192

When you have these MEMORIZED in your head, then you are ready to move on. NOT when you can perform the mathematical function quickly, but when you can spit out the answers without thinking, can you move on to lesson 2 (00000010). So work on that and look for the next lesson tomorrow or probably more than likely Friday. Hope you all have a great evening!

Cheesy Vegetable Soup

Cheesy Potato Vegetable Soup

6-8 Potatoes
1 Large Onion Chopped
2 Quarts of Water
2 16 Ounce Packages of Frozen Broccoli, Cauliflower, and Carrot Blend (California Blend)
1 10 ounce can of Cream of Celery Soup
1 10 ounce can of Cream of Chicken Soup
1 16 ounce package of Velveeta Cheese
Salt and Pepper to Taste

Peel and dice potatoes. Chop onion. Combine potatoes, onions, and water in a large saucepan. Bring the water to a boil. Reduce heat and allow to simmer until potatoes are tender. This should take about 15-20 minutes. Add the frozen vegetables and cook until they are tender. This should take about another 12-15 minutes. Stir in the can soups and mix will. Add the cheese and allow to simmer until the cheese is melted. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Sometimes the Soups only come in 10 3/4 oz. cans, that is okay.

Is the Dark Side Stronger?

HTML Generator Sample Page

The dark side provides powers similar to those of the Jedi such as psychic communication, hypnosis and extrasensory perception but draws energy from emotions and passion This energy is enhanced by emotion, in this world we call it adrenaline. These emotions that include hatred, rage are usually bad, but fear and anger are a part of every day life. These emotions can lead to very powerful skills, such as lightning from the fingertips, and Vader's famous Force Choke. While the original films may picture the dark side as evil, a deeper analysis brought to us by the prequel trilogy and the Expanded Universe give us a much better understanding of what it truly is. For one, the dark side stems from all strong emotions, not just the negative ones.

Through the use of negative emotions, such as anger, aggression, and greed, the powers of the Force come to the individual more easily. The downside, when they lust for power, it consumes, them and they have tendencies to think more highly of themselves (arrogance). When individuals go down this path, it is assumed that they always become corrupted individuals, evil and wicked, ever consumed with self-centerdness and the never ending desire for more power (addiction similar to drug users).

The Jedi do a good job recognizing how tempting the path to the dark side is, and think it to be evil. It is for this reason that their teaching includes restraint, limiting their abilities in the force. Yoda mentioned that a Jedi uses his/her skills for “knowledge and defense, never for attack.” While that seems noble, it is often necessary to attack, or at least counter an attack, in which case the force comes in very handy.

The Sith, on the other hand (users of the Dark Side of the Force) utilize the Force's full potential. They feel that you must examine both sides of something, much the same as I. This is seen clearly in Revenge of the Sith when Aniken realizes Palpatine is a Sith Lord, or when Vader in The Empire Strikes Back informs Luke that only hatred can destroy him. I think he was right as we saw in Return of the Jedi. Luke's fear of his sister turning to the Dark Side led to fear, hatred, and aggression, and Vader was defeated.

Lucas uses 'the dark side', and "paths to the dark side", as disposition to propose that the distinction between good and evil is clearly not a distinction between us vs. them. So that brings to question, is the Dark Side Stronger? My analysis, yes it is. Yoda was either a liar or was fooled. I am unsure, what do you think?

Dear J.J. Abrams

Last month a video was constructed to let J.J. Abrams hear from the Star Wars fans how desperately we wanted the next trilogy to be a good one.  Below is the link to the announcement.

Dear J.J. Abrams

Does anyone know how this worked out?  Was the video successful?  Did he take your constructive criticism well?

I am anxious to see what will become of Star Wars Episode VII, especially since Episode I failed to meet, pretty much everyone's expectations.

Honestly though, people, what do you think will happen?  If the next trilogy is not as good as the original, (Which I think nothing ever will be) are we going to quit watching Star Wars?  Yeah Right!

Here is the video.

Does anyone know if this technique will be effective?  I sure hope to see more of the things in the next trilogy that made me very happy as a child and caused me to watch it over and over again.  Please share any information you have on how this democracy (hopefully) is shaping the future of our Star Wars theatrical experiences.

Color of the Lightsaber. What Color are You? Was the story originally written, or does it continue to write itself?

Okay, so with the original trilogy, the original film, in fact, "A New Hope" we are exposed to only two lightsabers. First, the blue one that Obi-Wan Kenobi gives Luke from his father that Uncle Owen would not allow. Then, Obi-Wan has to pull his out to defend Luke from somebody looking for trouble in the Cantina. We would later see the "evil" Darth Vader pull his out to dual it off with Obi-Wan, and what a surprise! It is RED!  So we can make the assumption at this point that good guys use blue lightsabers, and bad guys use red ones, right?  Wrong!

Had it not been for a blue lightsaber not looking correctly next to the skies of Tantooine, this may have been the case.  Unfortunately for the fan, the blues clashed and the green lightsaber was invented.  I have to ask the reader here, do you think Lucas knew the door he was opening up with this change?  Now as a result we have different classes of Jedi, each carrying a different color blade to distinguish them.  (Probably) unbeknownst to our friend Mr. Lucas, a blue sky created a distinguishing insignia for Jedi.

Next will come classifications of Jedi and their color.  In the meanwhile, what color are you?
